Paxil And Welbutrin Information in Questions
How Is Welbutrin Differen't then Lexapro Or Paxil, Zoloft, ect.? Also, why does Welbutrin increase risk of seizures and Lexapro, Zoloft, and Paxil Do not? Is it A differen't type of Anti-depressant? Im sorry, I ment 'Wellbutrin"

two_kee_kees replied: "I took Wellbutrin for a short time, and I would not recommend using it. While taking it I got severely depressed, had HUGE panic attacks, and broke out in hives along with having a severely itchy head, feet, and hands. It did, however, help me to quit smoking for good... which was awesome. I wouldn't take it due to the higher risk of seizures."

Matthew L replied: "Yeah, they're different. Lexapro, Paxil, and Zoloft are SSRIs. Wellbutrin is not."

Natalya replied: "The risk of seizures with Wellbutrin is dose dependent - in other words, it becomes more of a risk with higher dosages of the medication. Studies have shown that on 'normal' doses of Wellbutrin, the risk of seizures is actually LOWER than many other anti depressants. Wellbutrin differs from Lexapro etc in that it affects dopamine and noradrenaline, rather than seratonin."

mock sake replied: "i took wellbutrin, lexapro, and zoloft over two years(the medications were prescribed when one of them didnt work).there are different chemicals, and a different type of AD."

lower sex drive with paxil or welbutrin? I would like to match my wife sex's drive, hers is slow, and mine is a little faster, can i take these pills to reduce it, or is there anything else i can take. my only option is to lower mine, my wife says she will not have sex if she is not in the mood, and i should go please myself, will either of these pills do the trick.

shinningnite replied: "Both will work but Paxil will take you down so much you may not even want it at all for weeks at a time. Moreover if you tolerate the nausea (common complaint) you will be more content."

Mindlessfun replied: "Paxil might do the trick but in my case the drive was there still but the feelings were muted... it was like I was wearing 20 condoms. I think your wife is selfish and you need to move on. Why stay married to a woman who wants you to have sex with only her but you rarely have sex??? Trust me... in another 10 years you will soooooo regret staying with her."

Tamiri replied: "Don't get on pills unless you have to. These are anti-depressants that increase certain chemical productions in the brain. After being on them for a long time, your brain becomes dependent on them and doesn't produce them as well naturally, without the pills."

Morris B replied: "What is the effect of Prozac on sex drive?"

Good Knight replied: "Wellbutrin isn't slowing mine down and a female friend of mine says hers is a little better. Many people pick Wellbutrin over others because it doesn't mess with the sex drive. I know someone who was on Lexapro for anxiety and it killed their sex drive. Doctor said that was rare but I hear it all the time."

Laura M replied: "Yeah, they'll defenitely work but Paxil doesn't lower your sex drive. It kills it and I hated it. I literally couldn't get aroused and I couldn't even masturbate."

can i take paxil cr 12.5 mg when i took welbutrin yesterday? i been taking wellbutrin xr for a week i took one yesterday buit i wanna take paxil today are there any risks? its been over 24 hours since i took wellbutrin and its only 150 mg

Margaret D replied: "I doubt it cause i use to be on paxil and its a pretty mild medicine. But why do you want to keep mixing your medicine? You should pick one and make up your mind about it."

Sara K replied: "Was the Wellbutrin a continuous release? The thing with most psychotropic medications is that they take two weeks to reach an effective level in your bloodstream. There are no contraindications for Wellbutrin. If you were on Thioridiazine, Theophylline, Risperdal, Cimetidine (including OTC) or antiarrhythmics, you would have some issues. I am assuming the Paxil was prescribed by the same prescriber as the Wellbutrin? And you aren't suppose to titrate up with the Paxil? You should be safe to go ahead. Oh, if you take St. John's wort, leave off taking it for a while. Possibly central nervous system depression with St. John's wort"

merrybodner replied: "Call your doctor and ask. If you can't get your doctor, try your pharmacist."

Pooka replied: "...you are aware that wellbutrin is an opiate synthetic so you're essentially taking heroin/morphine/methadone's equivalent? In other words, it's HIGHLY addictive. You should really stop taking it, a lot of people are trying to stop taking it, only to find they're caught up in bone crushing addiction. All those side effects they list when you google it are symptoms of opiate withdrawal!!! If you stop taking it after becoming an addict, you will get them. There's no recognized conflict between the two medications. In other words, according to doctors, you can take both together. But if you take wellbutrin for more than a few weeks, be prepared to go through withdrawal if you stop. Or, you can go on one of those clinics and become a "Methadonian"."

Did anyone have insomnia and crying alot when they started taking Welbutrin? My doctor took me off Paxil and put me on Welbutrin. I am having hyper moods and insomnia and ringing in the ears and crying alot....is this due to Paxil withdrawal or from Welbutrin?

Kyarra replied: "Never been on Paxil but Welbutrin seriously messed me up. I took it for ADD and it made me angry, sad, and depressed. I didn't like it, but if you're feeling that way, talk to your doctor and they'll put you on something different."

Duane L replied: "I have taken Welbutrin in the past and never had those symptoms."

wkenn123 replied: "Not sure about the paxil, never taken it, but I have taken wellbutrin and YES I had trouble sleeping while on it. Try to be patient as most med take time to build up in your system to be effective. Try taking the wellbutrin when youwake up, so it will be less likely to interfere with your sleep. Also try adding some exercise just before bed time, and then try reading before you turn the lghts out. Good luck!"

J G replied: "Talk to your Dr. Ive never been on Paxil, but heard that it is harder med to come off of. So at least part of that could be the withdraw (am assuming at least the crying a lot may likely be) Welbutrin caused me severe insomnia, and being very hyper.... but that was only because i have bipolar, and the Dr didnt believe me when i told her about my prior diagnosis (8 years earlier...years without treatment) so only saw the depression, so only put me on welbutrin....which triggered a pretty bad manic episode. Though am fine on welbutrin with a mood stabalizer. You didnt say how long you been off paxil going onto welbutrin. If it is under 2 weeks, and is not severe enough to interfere with life, Id say give it some time. If its longer definitly see your Dr. Some meds work wonders for some people, but have side effects too severe to be worth staying on them for others"

Paul A replied: "I take Wellbutrin in the morning, and Lexapro in the evening - and the doctor told me if I were to take the Wellbutrin in the evening I would be up all night. If you're taking the Wellbutrin at night that could be a problem. I don't know about the other symptoms - that could be withdrawal from the Paxil. You might talk with your doctor, and see what can be done - you don't have to live that way. Best of Luck to you :-) Paul."

OMIFL24 replied: "I, too, started on Paxil and it did NOT work for me at all. It is one of the stronger ones to be on. The severity of the withdrawal symptoms, as with a lot of medications, depends on the length of time it was in your system. I definitely remember the ringing in the ears during the transitional period. Wellbutrin, unlike most anti-depressants, is an energizer therefore taking it in the morning is the most beneficial. This is why, also, most people tend to LOSE weight and not gain; it gives them energy and makes them more active. As far as the crying a lot, I don't remember experiencing this at first but actually later on when an increase in dosage was warranted. I've been at 300mg for @ a year now and, after having tried @ 3 different ones and starting at 150mg's, my mood has been pretty stable. Another positive aspect @ Wellbutrin is that you can still actually feel emotions instead of just walking around like a zombie. Any qualified health care professional will tell you that the medication should be used in coordination w/ therapy. Who wants to stay on med's forever, right?"

Has anyone figured out how to get around the sexual side effects of Paxil? I'm a woman and I take Welbutrin as well. Thanks in advance.

Sammy replied: "lol. No. I don't have much sexual desires and I am also on an anti-depressant."

homelessinorangecounty replied: "that's quite a potent mix.... id read up on them and other possibilities then go to the MD with your ideas. check with nami and NIH websites for info and support and advice. sometimes in support groups they discuss pros cons and latest and greatest or oldest and baddest.. there are newer things avail with less side effects depending so do your research and find out why your getting those and also why both. Smartassawhip replied: "I wish I knew more. The Welbutrin you take has a low incidence of sexual side effects but those are common with Paxil. There is another antidepressant that also has a low incidence of sexual side effects. It is Serzone (nafazodone). Some people think it has been taken off the market but that's not true. There is still 1 manufacturer that makes a generic nefazodone, TEVA Pharmaceutical. Maybe you can switch from the Paxil to nefazodone? My x-wife had similar problems and her doctor tried her on progesterone, which tends to increase a woman's sexual desires, but unfortunately, she was unable to tolerate it due to severe headaches from it. I think most women can tolerate it OK. If you were a man I would recommend testosterone and Viagra. I don't know if Viagra would help a woman but your doctor should know. I have the same side effects from the Effexor I take so you have my empathy."

donttellme replied: "The only thing I know of is to switch to a different one-first choice is wellbutrin which you are already on-and use the PAxil fairly regularly if it helps, but take a "holiday" for the weekend or a day before the week end or so-for as long as you can tolerate being off it,until you feel some relief from the undesired side effect, then restart it."

What is an effective but safe diet pill? I'm looking for something that will not make me jittery like caffine. I am also taking paxil and welbutrin for my anxiety and depression. I asked my doctor but he wont recommend anything. He says all diet pills are bad. I need what ever I take to be safe to take along with my medications. I have gained 15 lbs. this year and I havent changed my diet, so I'm just looking to lose about 20 lbs. Has anyone used SoCal Cleanse?

laydenirvine replied: "all diet pills are gimmicks, don't waste ur money on them!"

angel h replied: "I don't really know if those exist, maybe you should ask your doc about it and see which one he recommends. I know some of the ones in those commercials are now involved in a big lawsuit for misleading the public so I won't suggest any of them. Just be careful if you should find someone who tells you to take one because it can lead to other problems, so again maybe asking your doc and getting a full physical first is safer."

getting2old2quick replied: "You won't like my answer but there are no effective or safe diet pills! The problem is not fixed with a pill. Portion control, exercise & self control are the only way to lose weight and keep it off."

miss-snoopy replied: "There are none. you canot lose weight with a pill safetly...if you could then everyone would be buying it.Just lose it the old fashion way.Eat healthy and get exercise."

Jimfix replied: "Quit eating so much. Exercise more, there is not pill that does not say "When taken with a reduced calorie diet and exercise." Duh. The only pill is selfadenial."

dubc replied: "None of that shit's good for you. The only truley healthy way to loose wieght is with diet and exercise. I know it sucks, and nobody wants to hear that but the truth is that all the good things in life including: having a nice body, and getting laid, take hard work and effort to achieve. Diet pills just arent good for you. Listen to your Dr. He probably knows what he's talking about."

pico24_1999 replied: "see your DR-don't take diet pills-they simply speed up your heart and are not good for you."

Andrew replied: "Hmmm. If you want to stick to something natural, then consider hoodia. It's a natural cactus extract that tricks the brain into thinking you're full when you're not. It means, therefore, that you eat less, and you'll lose weight from that. Go to any vitamin store and ask for "hoodia". It doesn't have any caffeine in it, so it shouldn't make you jittery. One word of advice: in terms of your diet, pay close attention to limiting or even better eliminating the consumption of refined sugar. Just cutting sugar intake alone can result in substantial weight loss for most people. Let me know how your progress goes."

Why do I have an abnormally high tolerance to medications? I'm currently 42, and for as long as I can remember I have been hard to medicate. Consider these examples: 1)I have to take 2 or 3 800mg ibuprofens to have any affect on headaches or muscle aches. 2)I have a history of depression for which I have tried Paxil, Prozac, Welbutrin, and others. Despite taking doses which increase my chances of having a seizure or something, no affect! 3) I have to take at least 3 Benadryls to notice any difference at all in my runny nose. Does anyone have any experience with such a condition? It can be very frustrating because my doctors can't seem to treat me very well and we just end up trying several different products and/or combinations. Serious replies appreciated!

jstmother replied: "Probably you have trouble absorbing pills through your digestive tract. In order for medications or vitamins to work, for instance, they have to be absorbed through the stomach and intestine and into the bloodstream. Researchers determine the effectiveness of drugs through a measurement of their concentration in the blood plasma, and they look to see how long the blood plasma concentration remains elevated. I represent a liquid multivitamin and mineral supplement product, and the company has gone to great expense to creat e a product that is easily absorbed and gets into the bloodstream, to remain at high concentration for a longer period of time. It seems to me that with all the products you are taking, you should seriously consider taking a full spectrum multivitamin and mineral supplement. I have heard personally reports of people who have been able to reduce their intake of anxiety and other kinds of stress drugs because they improved their nutrition through the use of these supplements. Yahoo gets mad if I post a link to a web sales site here, but you can write me and I will send you a link in return email, or call you on the phone if you would like to discuss this further. I can also point you to some research and education tools on the net that you can use for free. Write me at:. I wish you the best with your health challenges."

Are there any alternatives ( other than medication) to treat depression? I have tried every medication for depression over the past 20 years and nothing has worked. Currently I am on 7 medications to try and help me. They include Paxil, Welbutrin, Lamictal, Straterra, Provigal, Suboxone and Trazadone. I dont know anything else to do and I feel helpless.

Wrath Warbone replied: "Sometimes improving ones diet and getting regular exercise can help reduce depression, but ask your doctor if your diet is adequate or not. Some people write what ever they think and feel into a notebook that they never show anyone else. They say it makes them feel a lot better, especially over time. None of these will harm but can be used to supplement treatment with medicine."

skeme66 replied: "colour therapy might help....surround yourself with bright colours in your environment and clothes"

thehighmonkeymonk replied: "OMG!!! See a new doctor!! No one should be on this many meds at once and it's very irresponsible of your doctor! If this is over 20 years and nothing has helped, you probably have something other than or in addition to depression that is not being treated. If you can, try to see a naturopath or someone other than an MD."

Moonstruck replied: "Traveling. Get out of your environment. You need a change in your life. Not medication. People have the self ability to become better. Do something out of the ordinary. Get a dramatic change in your look. Help people on yahoo answers. Time will heal. Did something traumatic happen to you, my friend? I hope you feel better."

MadforMAC replied: "I think it is so sad some idiot doctor placed you on all of those and didn't once mention alternative medicine and talk therapy with a conselor. I suggest those two things for you now. You need to work through why you are depressed. Make sure you are taking good care of yourself by eating healthy, getting some exercise daily and staying away from depressants like sugar and alcohol and illegal drugs."

chelsea catastrophe! replied: "I was put on Cymbalta for depression, and after the first day, I was DONE with meds for it, lol. I'd recommend getting a notebook and writing down your thoughts each day, as an outlet to get any depressing thoughts out of your head. Try to eat healthier, take a daily vitamin, and exercise some if you have the time. Make some time for yourself to just spend a day or so in your pajamas and get some relaxation time in. If you feel really stressed, maybe go see a massage therapist or something? I've been seeing a psychologist, and that's helping a bit."

Leeah replied: "I was a guinne pig for a while with medications myself, for depression. I didn't find one that worked for me. I went into therapy, It helped me more than any other drug. I learned that you really need to take care of your body if you are suseptable to depression. That means taking vitamins, and minerals, and talking. Talking to someone who knows depression. Excersise, even if you don't want to go out, force yourself, go out with a friend or family member for coffee, or go for a jog, go for a long walk, ect. I think you are on a lot of meds, I don't recomend cutting them off cold turkey, you should see your Dr. and ask him if theres a professional in your area that deals with depression, without medication, if that's the route you are going for. Medication doesnt work for everyone. Maybe there is something bothering you that you don't even realize. Good Luck. I hope you find the answer you are looking for."

Mary~Red replied: "First off you need to get off all that medicine...you need to see if its a chemical imbalance of your system...you need better help than who ever is giving you this stuff your not getting better but will end up worse... you need to be around people that care and can help you ...seek a doctor that can search out what is wrong..maybe its just something your body needs and is not getting... chemical imbalances in the brain. I've had problems and with this vitamin B's have found a improvement but I never got on any strong medication as you have ..seek out some one that can check into this for you ..or get on-line and look up health foods and treating depression ...going to give you a site to start you off with ...and with you wanting and understanding is your first step...to getting better"

M* R* replied: "I have to agree with everyone who has said to see a new doctor. Go see a Psychologist...not a Psychiatrist. (Psychologist = PhD, Psychiatrist = MD) They can begin therapy and slowly begin taking you off some of the meds. You may not be able to eliminate all of them right away. Some may still be necessary to lessen the effects of your symptoms in your day-to-day life. Many emotional problems, like depression, root from some deep down disturbance in the sub-conscious mind. This may be something bad that has happened in your life that you have "locked away" in order to try and "forget" that it ever happened. If this is the case, it may have festered and will not go away until it is addressed...no matter how many medications you are on. Don't think that you are the only one with this problem. Many people have been going to Psychiatrists for years with minimal success. Most of the people that I have recommended the services of a Psychologist to have received great results. The truth is, medicinal therapy was never meant as more than a bandage over the wound. Today's society has turned it into a miracle cure that it simply is not...and today's doctors have turned it in to a cash crop of endless proportions. I hope this helps. ~M"

kristen replied: "I have tried all of those meds with no luck. I talked to a Psychiatrist today, and he referred me to another Psych...that uses hypnosis to treat depression among other things. I think I'm going to try it, I'm tired of living like this."

puppies_fly replied: "You should definitely try some non-medicine things as people suggested above, but there is one medicine that might be able to help you, as it is very different from most antidepressants. Ketamine is currently in experimental use for treatment-resistant depression, and it has a very high success rate and starts working in only a few hours. It's worked very well for me when nothing else has."
